Homemade Hair and Body Butter (plus how to make Flaxseed Gel for Hair)

*This post is for you Ma'am who I saw at my job and I gave the suggestion of making your own body product. Feel free to add in your own butters or butter that will be perfect for your skin. I'm sorry I'm posting this late, but I truly hope it helps on your health journey!

Hello Friends,

Today on the blog, I am going to share some beauty necessities I love to whip up on almost any given time. I've been one, for awhile now, who loves anything having to do with womanhood. You will find me reading blogs, articles, research papers on what foods are excellent for a woman's body, and find me casually on Friday nights, scrolling through Google pictures to see what women in the 1950s looked like and how they took care of themselves in that era. You will also find me heading to the kitchen every morning to reach for my multivitamin, not missing a day. So, trust me when I say, this topic is so beautiful and full of almost every kind of blessedness there is to me, so let's dive in!

Making your own homemade beauty products is very important and vital in this era and even, back then, when chemicals and junk were few. When I first started making my family's products, I was so excited! My mom and I learned a few things from YouTube and were hooked- just seeing how the people's skin glew and glistened was something I knew my family wanted. Now making our own products for years, our bodies love it and crave it. It's honestly skin and hair food. The pure thought of knowing I'm putting tallow or butter from shea nuts on my skin is humbling and makes me want to do a little dance. God has given us such, such beautiful, multi-purposeful things to enjoy and I will and I hope you do, too!

Another reason you should make your own products as I mentioned above, are because of the chemicals and junk added to products today. How do we expect our bodies to heal and restore themselves when we're putting products on us that include ingredients we can't pronounce? Or, lead us to more skin problems? For example, ever buy a hair product that says it helps with dryness and then, when you keep using it, you have either more dryness or a new hair problem? No, thank you!

I encourage you friends to get your hands dirty, brain full of amazing concoctions you want to try, and a heart ready to share it with family!

HOMEMADE HAIR AND BODY BUTTER

One thing I like to do when I'm short on time which I try to make an effort of not being on often is make a dual purpose butter. It knocks out having to do two separate products.

I also like to name my products names like Healing and Restoration, Bloom and Prosper, etc. It adds a blessing to them and y'all, they live up to their name for my body.

INGREDIENTS

-Good quality tallow (make sure it's the kind suited for skin and hair!)

-Shea Butter

-Mango Butter

-Cocoa Butter

-Kokum butter

-Grapeseed oil

-Essential Oils of your choice (remember, essentials oil are very concentrated and potent, so don't put too much where it burns your skin off- trust me, we did a cinnamon body butter and yes, I lived to tell about it, but won't do it again...)

TIP

Make enough where you have extra product on hand- it's a true blessing when you go in your product closet and see more than enough for you, your family, and friends!

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a double boiler and just the right amount of heat on your stovetop, melt your hard butters. Once your hard butters are melted, add in your softer butters and essential oils. Using a hand mixer, blend until creamy, with the perfect fluff. Store in your mason jar of choice.

HOMEMADE FLAXSEED GEL

This gel is honestly one of the best gels I've used. I've never been a gel person growing up, but as I've matured, I've realized hair that sticks up like antennas is simply a no-no and I've gladly opted for a polished look for the every day. I remember growing up where I attended a middle school in Philadelphia, PA where girls would be in the bathroom doing their "edges" and applying their lipgloss that reflected like a freshly prepared diamond for rings and necklaces. It was simply how they got put together. Although, I'm not that into that, I am enough where I always like to make sure I look presentable and pretty. This gel will be perfect for your hair and your scalp health. Flaxseed has vitamin E, which is great for deeply nourishing the skin and with the addition of olive oil, you'll have a gel not too drying, as well. It holds perfectly and it'll be a gel you make for a long time. This recipe make mores than enough, so halve it if need be. It'll make a perfect gift for family and friends.

INGREDIENTS

-Use 4 of the 1/4 cup of whole flaxseeds

-6 cups of purified water

- 1-3 tablespoons olive oil (depending on the amount of moisture + hold desired- remember, more moisture results in not as much hold)

- Essential/s oil of choice (I like perfume-y essential oils that are nice and feminine)

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine your water and flaxseeds in a small pot and on medium high heat, bring flaxseeds to a boil. Once boiling, turn down heat a bit until a soft gel forms. Example: When you put your spoon in it, it should have a droopy, gel-like consistency. Once it reaches that point, turn off heat and let cool. Using a strainer, pour your flaxseed mixture bit by bit in, with a mason jar underneath. A tip I like to give is to use a silicone spatula along the way to help press the flaxseed gel out into your mason jar- it leaves the flaxseeds in and presses the gel out. When fully in your mason jar, add your olive oil and essential oils. Store in the fridge until it expires. Some signs of expiration are as follows: a smell, cloudy. Please be aware that olive oil does solidify when cold, so if you see specks in your gel that's what it is and it will melt. Also, use your best judgement- you'll know when your gel is bad. A bit of cloudiness isn't bad as it's a beautiful natural product, however, if you look at it and start to ponder, go with that intuition lol!

I hope this post encourages you to make more of your own beauty products, a bit at a time. I will be posting more and I'm so blessed and excited to do so.

I love you all and God bless very much,

Hannah
